Recently, we have been receiving a lot of requests for our bat houses, and are happy to
announce that we will be offering them for a limited time as a special on our website...
starting right now.
Our bat houses are well constructed and were designed with a great deal of functionality
in mind. Our bat houses are approximately 15"H x 8"W x 3"D. Each bat house is
structurally designed to include ventilatioon, a brooding chamber, and lots of room for the
40 bat species found in the United States.
We also have some suggestions for those of you who might be purchasing your first bat house:
1) Bats don't care much for dodging between leaves or branches. Try to mount your bat house in the open
(for instance under a purple martin house) or near a tree line next to a field.
2) Bats want to be warm in the Northern US and cool in the Southern US. For those customers in the North we
suggest placing your bat house in your yard so it gest at least four hours of direct sunlight per day...
more the better. For those in the South, try to mount your bat house so that it is shaded during the hotter portions of the day.
3) Good places to mount bat houses are on posts, large trees, and in roofline peaks. Try to mount
your bat house at least ten feet off the ground.
4) Also, for those customers in the North, Painting your bat house black or darkbrown will help keep it warmer
inside. Conversely, for those in the South, painting your bat house white or another light color will
keep it cooler.
5) Bats eat bugs! Most people we sell bat houses to want bats around to keep the mosquitoes and biting flies
away. Bats will be more attracted to your bat house if you have a food supply around. Swamps,
marshes, bogs, lakes, and ponds are all breeding areas for bugs and are therefore great food sources
for bats. If you have an area like this around, you may want to place your bat house near it.
